After 2 goalless home matches against Houston Dynamo (0-1 in San Jose and 0-0 in San Francisco) and an un-official, close to public friendly against San Luis Obispo, Kei Kamara found the back of the net twice last Friday, for a 2-1 victory against 2007 MLS 10th overall franchise Columbus Crew.

Kamara put the Earthquakes ahead at the 17th minute with a low lining shot after Gavin Glinton slid a pass on the ground towards him.

At the 34th minute, Eddie Gaven equalized for the Crew with an assist by Alejandro Moreno.

20 minutes later, Kei Kamara gave his team the victory, after an individual dribbling move on the left of the box, he faked one way, slid the ball back and shot in the lower right corner of the net

Columbus (3 wins - 1 loss before this game in the pre-season) had a chance to equalize at the 62nd minute with a shot by Guillermo Barros Schelotto nicely saved by Dan Benton (who replaced  Preston Burpo at the 22nd minute) Schelotto tracked the loose ball, bent a pass across the box which was finally headed away by a SJE defender.

A competitive team

Having shown a strong physical and tactical presence in the two matches against Houston, the SJE also proved last Friday that they are also able to score and win matches.  With almost 6 more weeks of preparation before the season starts, the fans can reasonably believe the team will be competitive on April 3rd for the season's opener at Home Depot Center against Frank Yallop's former club, the Los Angeles Galaxy!

The MLS Show Case in San Luis Obispo continues for the SJE this Sunday at 1 p.m. with another exhibition match against D.C. United.
