While their team mates are preparing their trip to Portland, Oregon for their last preseason match against the Timbers (USL-1), 2 players have been called by their national teams for matches on Wednesday, March 26.
Ivan
Guerrero was named to the roster for Honduras' friendly match against
Colombia (which would be his 80th cap), while Gavin Glinton will
represent Turks and Caicos in the second leg of a World Cup qualifying
series against St. Lucia. Glinton scored the winning goal for his
team in the first leg (2-1)
Chris Pozniak will be the only other player not to be available for Friday's friendly (groin strain)

A
new partnership between The
San Jose Earthquakes and KFC will allow fans to purchase 500 tickets
for every home game for only $15 (instead of $22 at Buck Shaw Stadium
in Santa Clara or $30 at McAfee Coliseum in Oakland - regular price for
the same category of seats)
Vouchers
can be purchased at 26 participating KFC restaurants across the South
Bay and will be redeemable for any home game (subject to availability)
at Earthquakes offices or at the stadium the day of the game.
The
section in which the 500 seats are located will be officially branded
The KFC Colonel's Corner. (section 107 at Buck Shaw Stadium and
sections 231 & 232 at McAfee Coliseum)
Jed Mettee named Director of Broadcasting and Communications

The
San Jose Earthquakes announced todaythe hiring of Jed Mettee as the
Director of Broadcasting and Communications. Mettee returns to the
Quakes after spending five seasons with the team from 2001 to 2005. He
will oversee broadcasting, media relations and community relations for
the expansion club.
In his first stint with the club, Mettee served as the Director of Media Relations and Broadcasting.
Mettee
comes to the Earthquakes after 2 years with Santa Clara University
where he served as the Director of Media Relations. Wiith the Broncos,
his responsabilities included overseeing the Athletic Department's
public and media relations efforts for the university's 19 varsity
sports, while also managing santaclarabroncos.com and radio broadcast
agreements.

Earthquakes Sign Midfielder Shea Salinas
Monday March 17, 2008
Unsurprisingly,
after a promising preseason, Shea Salinas has finaly signed a contract
in favor of the San Jose Earthquakes. The terms have not been disclosed.
"Shea
has a very bright future," said General Manager John Doyle. "He has had
a terrific preseason so far and we are excited to sign him. We are
looking for him to make an immediate impact this season.
The
Lubbock, Texas nat-ive comes to San Jose from Fuman University where he
played 77 games, scored 14 goals and had 21 assists in his college
career. Salinas, 21, was named to the NSCAA All-American Third Team and
NSCAA All-South Region First Team in 2007. In 2006 and 2007, he was
also named to the All-Southern Conference First Team. In addition,
Salinas was in the NSCAA All-South Region Third Team selection in 2006.
He was also Academic All-American at Furman.
Salinas
played club soccer for the Dallas Texans and Solar, and played for the
Carolina Dynamo of the PDL. In 2007, Salinas was a USL PDL
All-conference Selection.

Earthquakes Name Jason Batty Goalkeeper Coach

The SJE have announced that Jason Batty has been named Goalkeeper Coach.
"Jason
was a top-level professional goalkeeper who has a wealth of
international experience" said general Manager John Doyle. "He
has worked with a number of strong goalkeepers around the country and
he is a great addition to our staff."
The
former New Zealand international comes to San Jose after serving as the
Director of Goalkeeping for Texas Premier SC, while coaching a number
of soccer academies and camps. Previously, he was assistant coach and
goalkeeper coach for Dartmouth College.
Prior to coaching,
Battyu professionally for 14 years in England, Singapore, New Zealand
and the United States. He earned 55 caps for the New Zealand's national
team.

Ronnie Ekelund new Technical Advisor

The SJE have agreed to terms with Ronnie Ekelund to become the Technical Advisor of the club for the 2008 Season.
"Ronnie
brings a lot of International experience to the Earthquakes and he will
be a valuable asset to the coaching staff and players", stated John
Doyle, General Manager of Soccer Operations for the San Jose
Earthquakes.
Ekelund spent 4
seasons as a player with the Earthquakes between 2001 and 2004,
helping San Jose capture 2 MLS Cup Championhips with his sublime
passing skills and leadership. He finished his MLS career with 11 goals
and 16 assists in 91 games.
He
left the Quakes after 2004 season and played one year with the
California Cougars of the Major Indoor Soccer League. He was a MILS
All-Star during the 2005-2006 season.
Prior to arriving in MLS,
he enjoyed a long career in European Soccer, playing for Brondby
(Denmark), Barcelona (Spain), Southampton, Manchester City and Coventry
City (England), and Odense (Denmark). Overall, he appeared 135
time and scored 22 goals in Europe after turning pro at age 15. He also
played for Denmark in the 1992 Olympics in Barcelona.

San Jose Earthquakes acquire Ronnie O'Brien

It
is official now, the SJE have signedmidfielder Ronnie O'Brien from
Toronto FC in exchange for a first round draft pick in the 2009 MLS
SuperDraft and allocation of money.
"Ronnie
O'Brien adds a proven offensive threat to our team", stated John Doyle,
General Manager of Soccer Operations. "He has a great engine with a
mind to go forward. His attacking mentality will keep opposing defenses
honest and create a lot of opportunities for us."
O'Brien
is starting his 7th MLS season. he has played 114 regular season games
and seven post season games. He has scored 12 goals and recorded 39
assists. For his efforts, he has participated in the MLS All-Star game
4 times and been named for the MLS Best XI Team twice! Obrien also has
International experience playing for the Ireland U-18, U-19 and U-21
National teams, winning the European Championship with the U-18 side.

Portland added to Preseason Schedule
Friday Feb. 25, 2008
The San Jose Earthquakes announced that the club will face the Portland
Timbers (USL Div. 1) on Friday March 28, 2008 at 7:30 p.m. at the
University of Portland 's Clive Charles Soccer Complex.
The
Earthquakes have faced the Timbers 3 times in the past. Portland won
the first meeting back in June 2001 in an exhibition match (1-2). More
recently, the SJE won twice against Portland, in the Lamar Hunt U.S.
Open Cup, once in 2004 (3-0, Ramiro Coralles, Ronnie Ekelund, Dwayne De
Rosario) and once on August 3, 2005 (2-0, Wade Barrett, Brian Mullan)
This match will be an opportunity for Ryan Cochrane (Portland, Oregon native) to play in front of a hometown crowd.

sign Ramiro Corales (Houston Dynamo)
Friday, Feb. 15
The San Jose Earthquakes announced yesterday the team has
acquired the rights to defender/midfielder Ramiro Corrales.
"We brought Ramiro back to the Earthquakes because he is an elite
player and very versatile" stated John Doyle, General Manager of soccer
operations of the SJE. "I have known Ramiro since he was 17 and I have
watched him mature and become a great professional."
"I am very happy to be back in San Jose and be playing for Frank Yallop
again" the player said. "I want to win more championships with the
Earthquakes and I look forward to playing in front of my hometown fans"
During his 11 years professional career, the new SJE player, played in
MLS for 9 years before leaving to Norway in 2005, signing at Hamkam
where he played as a left back. In 2006, he was named or the club
player of the year by local newspapers and the fans' official website.
In 2007, he moved to S.K. Brann (Another Norvegian club) and
helped the club win its first title in 44 years. During his 3 seasons
in Norway, he played 57 games and scored 3 goals.
Ramiro also appeared twice in the US national team in 1996 and 1997 and
twice in 2008 against Sweden and Mexico.

KLOK
1170 AM to Broadcast all Matches in Spanish
Spanish
language radio station KLOK (1170 AM), has signed a partnership with
the SJE to broadcast live all 30 regular season games in 2008.
The first broadcast is scheduled on Thursday, April 3, 2008 for the SJE
season's opening game at Office Depot Center, Los Angeles against the
Galaxy.
Part of Univision Radio , KLOK 1170 AM is a spanish language news/talk
radio station which covers current events, news, sports and offers
information about how to live a happier and healthier life.
Pre-Season's
schedule released!
The San Jose Earthquakes have released their
Pre-Season schedule.
They will start with 5 friendlies between February 13th and 24th., one
of them at Kezar Stadium, San Francisco (Feb. 16 at 7 p.m. against)
They will then take the road to Charleston (South Carolina) where they
will spend a week (March 15th - 22nd) preparing for their MLS
return competing in
the 2008 Carolina Challenge Cup against the New York Red Bulls (MLS),
Toronto FC (MLS), and the locals, Charleston Battery (USL-1)
For the fifth edition of this competitive challenge, the Quakes will
try to win back the trophy they won in 2004.
Back from this trip, They will have a little less than 2 weeks
of work left before the D day.
Their official MLS season starts on April 3rd at Los Angeles
against David Beckham's Galaxy. Then, they receive the Chicago
Fire at
McAfee Coliseum in Oakland (Saturday 04/12 at 1:30 p.m.)
The actual Home debut at Santa Clara University's Buck Shaw Stadium is
scheduled on Saturday 05/03 at 7 p.m. against FC Dallas.
