The 2008 RollerSoccer World Cup takes place in San Francisco next week-end.
RollerSoccer, soccer on skates, has a small yet broad international following due in part to its creator, Zack Phillips who has a unique, yet recognizable personality and is known as the original "soccerhead." He has garnered international television publicity for the sport in over 150 countries.
This coed team sport was created in San Francisco's Golden Gate Park in 1995. This is the 6th RS World Cup. After England, Germany and France, RSWC is returning to its birthplace. Previous champions are Netherlands, Germany and France.
The 2008 RSWC will be a sporting spectacle and a platform for cultural exchange between international players and kids.
This will be the first time that the RollerSoccer World Cup and the Roller Basketball World Championship will be hosted together. Ancillary entertainment such as outdoor music, food vendors, merchandise vendors, as well as appearances by sports celebrities will be part of the envent.
FIFA Ambassador for 2007 World Cup, former star of the WUSA, and former member of the Brazil women’s national football team, Sissi will be in attendance at the 2008 RSWC.
"I've had the opportunity to play RollerSoccer with these great athletes. It combines elements of two sports I love, soccer and hockey. I'm proud to say that I'm a RollerSoccer player and fan!" – Alexi Lalas, President and General Manager LA Galaxy.
