Carnaval SoccerFest 2008

TheBaySoccer is proud to introduce SoccerFest, a unique annual event which intends to help you discover or re-discover the fun and festive side of Soccer. Far from competition and performance considerations, we invite you to 2 days of free fun and games with professional players, including members of the USA national Beach Soccer Team and San Jose Earthquakes Players.

SoccerFest 2008 is a fun, interactive Soccer event designed to encourage and support young people in discovering and developing their athletic talents. Part of Carnaval San Francisco, SoccerFest is dedicated to celebrating Soccer, the world’s most popular sport and pastime, while emphasizing participation, teamwork, respect, and leadership. The main focus of the event is a free Soccer clinic with professional players and coaches. Players and Coaches will also be available for autograph sessions, photo ops, and will perform Soccer skills demonstrations for participants. The game of Soccer unites people regardless of age, color, culture, race, or religion through one common understanding; love of the beautiful game. This celebration of culture and tradition reflects the spirit of Carnaval San Francisco. The shared passion for Soccer will unify our community at Carnaval SoccerFest 2008.

HIGHLIGHTS

FOOT VOLLEY EXHIBITION
During each day at SoccerFest a spectacular exhibition of ”Foot Volley” performed by the best professional Beach Soccer players in North America will take place. The game of Foot Volley is a combination of Soccer and Beach Volleyball. This impressive Brazilian tradition originated on the beaches of Copacabana in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

SOCCERFEST SHOOT-OUT
The SoccerFest Shoot-out will be a fun chance to put your soccer skills to the test. This special feature of SoccerFest will be an interactive competition that requires kicking accuracy. The objective is to kick a soccer ball into a goal: the front of the goal will be partially blocked to allow only well placed shots into the goal.

MEET PROFESSIONAL PLAYERS
The US Beach Soccer National Team kicked off the 2008 CONCACAF Beach Soccer Championship in style with a 7-2 victory over Costa Rica. Jevin Albuquerque and Mario Anthony Chimienti scored two goals each while Ronald Silva, Brendon Taguinod and Yuri Morales added goals for the two-time defending CONCACAF champions. All seven of the goals scored by the US team were scored by players who will be making appearances at Carnaval SoccerFest 2008. In addition the starting goalkeeper for the US, Luis Montanez, will also be making an appearance at SoccerFest.

Great Fun For Over 400 Kids at SoccerFest 2008

Carnaval SoccerFest 2008

More than 400 kids participated to the Mission District's Carnaval Soccerfest this year. Many soccer activities, all for free, were proposed on the turf soccer field of John O'Connell High School.

While some of them were trying to win Pure Potential soccer balls at the Shoot out contest, others were learning skills from professional players, most of them members of the USA Beach Soccer National team.

These fun games and skills sessions were only interrupted by spectacular Foot Volley demonstrations and raffles with great prizes to win. Soccer goals and balls, kid's equipments, autographed San Jose Earthquakes' Jerseys, autographed US Beach Soccer National Team jerseys and a Freddy Adu worn and autographed US National Team jersey are some of the prizes lucky winners brought home. Some San Jose Earthquakes players even showed up on Saturday for an autograph session!

The event also included scrimmages for boys and girls of all ages which turned out to be the most successful part of the event. Some kids who came on Saturday came back early on Sunday, and played again. Some of them stayed for hours while their parents were walking around in the Carnaval. Some parents had a hard time convincing their kids that it was time to go home!
