(See the week-end's games' stats at the bottom of this page)
The San Jose Frogs had a busy schedule this week-end and won their two games at Lancaster and San Fernando Valley while the San Francisco Seals won at Lancaster too.
The Seals played the Lancaster Rattlers on Friday night and won 1-0 with a goal scored by Kellan Wilson (his third in the first three matches of the season). This is the second win in three games for the Seals this season. Their record now shows 2 wins and one tie, which is excellent, considering that they played 2 of the best teams in the league: the Fresno Fuego (3-2 win) and the San Jose Frogs (0-0), the Frogs.
On Saturday, the Frogs had the first of their 2 back to back games at Lancaster. One goal in each half for the Frogs gave them a 2-0 victory. Nelson Diaz scored the first goal after 3 minutes and Eric Espinoza, who replaced Diaz at the 89th minute, doubled the score one minute later.
24 hours later, the Frogs defeated (3-1) the San Fernando Valley Quakes who had not lost on their own field in more than a year. San Jose quickly killed the game, leading by three goals after 40 minutes. The goals were scored by Hugo Sousa (9th), Andrew J. Wiedeman (19th) and Wiedeman again (40th, assisted by Nelson Diaz).
With 2 wins each and a tie in the match between them, the 2 Bay Area teams share the top position in the Southwest Division of the semi-professional Premier Development League (PDL) of the United Soccer Leagues (USL).
PDL is the third division of USL and is generally considered as the overall 4th division in the country after MLS, USL1 and USL2.
Next week, on Saturday night (May 17 at 7pm) Bay Area soccer fans will have a choice between the Seals (receiving the Orange County Blue Star at USF Negoesco Stadium, San Francisco) and the Frogs (who will host the Ventura County Fusion at Jame Lick High School, San Jose)
