Decisive week-end for the Seals,

SF Seals - SJ Frogs Sunday Derby

July 10, 2008

The San Francisco Seals only need to win one of their two games this weekend to make the playoffs. Four teams are still in the race but a win for the Seals tonight would eliminate Ventura Couty Fusion (3 points behind with only one match to play) and the loser of Fresno Fuego - San Fernando Valley Quakes on Sunday (See standings below)

Fresno (for them, a draw in their last match would be enough) and San Francisco are in the better situation before the final week-end starts, but each game has proven to be a hard fought battle since the beginning of the season and everything is possible.

The San Francisco Seals receive the Bakersfield Brigade tonight at USF (Negoesco stadium - see schedule and map below). Bakersfield lays in the 7th position but they only lost 4 matches out of 14. They have one of the best defenses in the league but scored very few goals, resulting in 7 ties. The Seals will absolutely need to find the back of the net to take the three points and approach their final game against the San Jose Frogs in a more relaxed state of mind.

In any case, the Bay Area Derby will be interresting. The Seals, even if they earned their ticket to the playoffs tonight, would need to win again on Sunday to make sure they become the PDL's Southwest Division champions.

The Frogs, who started the season very well, had a series of bad and, sometimes, unlucky results in the second part of the season and definitely lost all hopes of making the playoffs last week-end with two unexpected losses on the road. They receive the Bakersfield Brigade on Saturday for their last home game (free admission!), before coming to Negoesco on Sunday (See schedule below)

For them, it will be important to finish the season on a better note at home on Saturday and to remain unbeaten against their local rivals on Sunday, probably in front of a big crowd.
